Bridgewater is one of those places that tends to slip under the radar - well it does for me anyway. But while I was driving through the township, it just took my breath away. I vowed to myself that I would come again soon to explore all the little shops and cafes.
Note to self: must still do that!
From the moment I pulled into the Bridgewater Mill roadway, I knew I was entering somewhere special.
Bridgewater Mill comes into view with flowers and vines climbing up gorgeous stone walls.
It was like stepping into yesteryear; back to a time where life was more simple and where people and nature lived side by side in harmony. The hustle and bustle of city life, although only a short drive away, just faded away. I took a deep breath in and enjoyed the sweetness of the air, and shut my eyes to listen to birdsong and the rustle of the breeze. It was heaven, and my inner child just wanted to go and explore. I was about to get my notebook out, ready to sketch and maybe write an ode to Jane Austen....
.... then I remembered why I was there, took stock of myself, and walked inside.
Once you enter, it's like walking into a fairy tale. It's truly stunning.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by smiling faces behind the bar to my left. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and were more than happy for me to just take a nosey around. They know they're onto something special.
I met Chris and Tori who look after events and they were so helpful. We walked down to where the ceremony was going to take place, we discussed options, they came up with suggestions - nothing seemed too hard.
The watermill itself is a stunning piece of magnificence. It sits there, silently acknowledging how amazing it is and drawing everyone in. I'm told that it turns before and after the ceremony, but not during to avoid competing with the ceremony. My PA system can breathe a sigh of relief. I am yet to hear what the watermill sounds like; I can't wait :)
The pièce de résistance
I may have got a little snap-happy so I will save you from all the artsy photos clogging up my phone's memory... well okay just one. But only because you asked!
All in all, it's a beautiful place to have your wedding. There are no competing noises from neighbouring venues, as I have found at some other venues, and yet it's not too far for anyone living in and around Adelaide to travel. I am told by the couple that the price is very competitive, which is surprising given all it has to offer.
And make sure you leave some time to explore Bridgewater. From what I saw driving through, it definitely looks worthwhile.
Enjoy and happy planning!
